Ever since I could remember, I have been uncomfortable retrieving items from the bottom of my couch. It is there, with my senses restricted, that once familiar objects morph into unrecognizable horrors. Pushing my hand beyond the cushions and skimming its lining feels as if I have entered a void containing a dismantled time capsule of my past -- is what I graze the button of my sister’s Ugly Christmas sweater from 2005, the fly that was hovering over my banana days prior, or a Lisa Frank sticker from my childhood Punjabi Alphabet workbook?
What happens when we have our memories, but cannot comprehend their legacy in front of us? My work examines the contradiction between what I believe and what is “true”, specifically focusing on the objects that build the foundation of both.
